I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa

Image
I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa. I probably missed a few but I did try a lot of them. I have lived in Ottawa for two years and I was still transitioning from vegetarian to vegan when I moved here. I don’t remember having a lot of soft serve in Vancouver when I did eat dairy. I only remember having it at McDonald’s and buffets. I didn’t even know vegan soft serve was a thing until I moved to Ottawa. I tried six places The Merry Dairy, Oddburger, Little Jo Berry’s, Chocolate Favouris, IKEA, PastelXCoco, and 2 bonuses dole whip from Cinnaholic and the plant based dilly bar from Dairy Queen. I also went to Mavericks but they have been having supply issues and the soft serve is currently not vegan. Let me know if I missed any and maybe I’ll update the post in the future.  The Merry Dairy was the first vegan soft serve I had in Ottawa. I remember thinking I had to wait in line to get into the store only to learn soft serve was at the truck with no line. I was super excited that I

Chick-Fil-A copy cat but vegan

I have been watching way to many copy cat YouTube videos lately. I have never even been to Chick-Fil-A but decided to make the sauce after I saw the recipe on Raphael Gomes channel. The only things in the sauce that are not already vegan were mayo and honey I have access to vegan substitutes.

I found the vegan honey didn’t taste like honey it’s less sweet and has a darker flavour like molasses. It’s good though. Recipe is simple mix ingredients in a jar I didn’t follow exact measurements. I then let it sit in the fridge for an hour.

That looks pretty close to the pictures I have seen of the sauce. It tasted pretty good if I make it again I will add more honey as it wasn’t sweet enough I didn’t account for the milder taste of vegan honey.

I live close to a no waste grocery store and they sell beyond tenders by the piece. I had waffle fries in my freezer and use my airfryer to heat the tenders and fries. The tenders are a little expensive so I didn’t want to experiment with doing anything to them incase it didn’t work out. I think they are pretty good on their own. I cut them in pieces just to make them look more like Chick-Fil-A nuggets.

The lemon I used was very juicy I had squeezed some of the lemon into my water and added some vegan honey. It It was kind of like a lemonade which is my favourite drink. While I was drinking the lemon water I looked up Chick-Fil-A desserts they have a lemon frosty.. I didn’t have the ingredients for a copy cat recipe but I had some vegan ice cream from a local company called the Merry Dairy in my freezer. The flavour is mint chocolate chip but the flavour is very subtle and to me tasted like vanilla with a few chocolate chips. I added it to my lemon water to see what would happen. It was so good the slight mint flavour made it taste like a fancy drink. I just mixed it with a spoon and it’s so frothy. This was my favourite part of the meal.

This was a pretty good meal. I now live in an area that does not have easy access to fast food. Even though I have never had Chick-Fil-A it was nice to have something that is like fast food. I am glad I made it.
