2 ingredient High Protein Vegan Bagels with Gluten Free recipe

Image
I know you are all going to ask for a recipe.  I don’t actually measure ingredients or follow recipes but I will try to give you a recipe at the end of the post.  I started by making a 2 ingredient bagel. This is usually made with self rising flour and yogurt. I don’t have self rising flour so I added a 1/2 each teaspoon of baking powder and baking soda. I also added 2 tbsp of nutritional yeast and a pinch of salt for flavour.  The only vegan yogurt I have tried that I like is the lime flavour high protein silk. I like the texture and the taste of this one. I was a bit worried that the lime flavour wouldn’t taste good in this bagel but I like the way it turned out. You can use any yogurt you want but try and use a thicker one. I used a third of a cup just add some and mix with a spoon until all the flour is incorporated.  I shaped it by hand let it rest for 5 minutes. I preheated the airfryer oven and air fried for 20 minutes.  This was perfect: chewy on the out...

I made a vegan Dubai chocolate bar

Image
I wanted to try a proper vegan version of the viral  Dubai chocolate. I have tried the one from Palm bites  and  it’s good but it’s a healthier version made from dark chocolate and the pistachio is the crunch. I have also tried the cookie from Naturally Vero since they had an option to get it with my meal prep delivery. They do make a chocolate bar  but they don’t deliver it. I like the cookie filling but find it was too heavy in the cookie. Juice Dudez also has the filling in a mango pudding which is excellent but they don’t do a vegan chocolate yet. I am hoping I will convince them or any other Ottawa vendor to make one some day. In the meantime I had to make one myself.  I have asked my vendor friends to make me one even sent them the recipes but no one has yet. I really wanted to try a proper unhealthy version just once. I didn’t want to make it myself because I knew I would want to eat it all. I always gravitate to things that are pistachio flavoured. It’s ...

2022 Vegan Holiday Chocolate Tasting

Image
This year there were so many options for vegan chocolate I had to limit what I bought. I am not sure if it’s because I live in Ottawa now or vegan items are more accessible in general. In the past even just last year when I was in Vancouver I was limited by what I had access to. This year I had to limit what I bought because there were so many options. You can see last years post here  2021 vegan holiday chocolate tasting This year I purchased most of the chocolates in Ottawa compared to last year when I bought them in Vancouver the exception is from the Plant Curious box that I ordered from BC. I don’t remember all the prices but I will include the ones I remember. From my experience food prices even accounting for the cost of everything has gone up recently that food in Ottawa is more expensive than it is in Vancouver. I tried to include a variety in this review from items that are a good range of prices  between $2-$35 and items that are local to Ottawa to items that are av...

Another vegan chocolate tasting

Image
When I was at the mall recently I noticed a lot of new vegan chocolate options. Of course I had to buy a few.  There was a moo free section on the easter chocolate display. I bought the smallest Easter bunny for $2.99 but there is a big Easter egg I really want to try. It was out of my budget for the day but let me know if you want me to do an Easter vegan chocolate review in the future.  The bunny was very cute. The chocolate is made with rice milk which I really like in chocolate. It tasted just like a regular solid Easter bunny.     I found the dwarf stars pumpkin seed butter cups in the sale section of London drugs. I was excited to see vegan white chocolate at my local pharmacy/store. It was on sale for $3.99. These were very good. There is a nice subtle taste in the chocolate the only explanation I can find in the ingredients is rosemary extract. It doesn’t taste like rosemary but the flavour mixed with the ingredients tastes really good. This chocolate i...

Vegan holiday chocolate tasting

Image
This is the first year I am vegan and there is a lot of vegan holiday chocolate available so I thought I will do a tasting.    The dark Grand Ferrero Rocher is accidentally vegan. This is the only Ferrero product that does not have milk ingredients so read the ingredients before you buy things may change. I found this on sale for $5.99 at Save-On-Foods other stores like London drugs sell it for around $8. It’s so pretty would make a great gift.  It was a little hard to open at first and it’s hollow in the middle. Once you get the first part open it’s easy to break into pieces but thick enough it doesn’t fall apart on its own. The taste has a more bitter dark chocolate taste than regular Ferrero. It reminds of the chocolate that’s in the chocolate bunny’s you get in the grocery store less sweet and with a lot of hazelnuts. It is a good dark hazelnut chocolate.  Zazubean has a lot of festive flavours. I chose the Blitzen because it was on sale for $3.99 at London Dru...
