I wanted to try a proper vegan version of the viral Dubai chocolate. I have tried the one from Palm bites and it’s good but it’s a healthier version made from dark chocolate and the pistachio is the crunch. I have also tried the cookie from Naturally Vero since they had an option to get it with my meal prep delivery. They do make a chocolate bar but they don’t deliver it. I like the cookie filling but find it was too heavy in the cookie. Juice Dudez also has the filling in a mango pudding which is excellent but they don’t do a vegan chocolate yet. I am hoping I will convince them or any other Ottawa vendor to make one some day. In the meantime I had to make one myself.
I have asked my vendor friends to make me one even sent them the recipes but no one has yet. I really wanted to try a proper unhealthy version just once. I didn’t want to make it myself because I knew I would want to eat it all. I always gravitate to things that are pistachio flavoured. It’s one of my favourite flavours.
I found a jar of pistachio cream that said I’m vegan on it at the Showcase store. It did cost $20 but I have to try everything I told myself I have to write this post to justify buying it. I have had other pistachio chocolate jars and they were good but they were much less smooth and were healthier. This jar didn’t have the healthiest ingredients not terrible it was only a few ingredients like oil and sugar. It was dangerously good I could have eaten the whole jar with a spoon.
I knew if I didn’t make the chocolate right away the jar was going to be finished before I made it. If you are new to my posts I never follow recipes I read them to get an idea of how to make things then do what I want with whatever ingredients I have. I didn’t have all the ingredients to make this.
I am a fan of vegan white chocolate so really wanted both white and dark chocolate in the bar. I had both white and dark chocolate chips. Usually recipes say to melt chocolate in the microwave with coconut oil I didn’t have any. I used a drop of orange flavoured olive oil it worked. I also wasn’t going to buy a chocolate mold to make one chocolate bar one time so I use a silicon container I already had.
For the kunafa I didn’t have filo pastry. I had a vegetable pie that had phyllo where I thought I could use the edges. It was too soft and I also needed a salty crunch to contrast all the sweetness so I crumbled some corn tortilla chips into the pistachio filling. It actually worked out great.
I melted the dark chocolate chips into the microwave in 30 second intervals it took a minute. I stirred and used a spoon to spread the chocolate into the container then put it in the freezer while I washed a few dishes. Then I used c the spoon to put the pistachio cream and tortilla chip mixture onto the chocolate and put it in the freezer again. While it was in the freezer I melted more dark chocolate chips and then the white chocolate chips. I should have put the white chocolate on the bottom but I added drops with the spoon over the top ran a knife through to make the design and placed it back in the freezer.

Ten minutes later when I had finished cleaning the kitchen it was ready. It was so good but I made this late at night so I ate half and left the rest in the freezer for the next day. It was still perfect the next day. I won’t be making this again because it’s too dangerous and I will eat too much. I’m satisfied that I tried it and now I will go back to eating the healthier versions on the market until someone else starts selling vegan Dubai chocolates. Please Ottawa vendor friends if you start making these save me one before you sell out.
