Vancouver and Bowen Island trip October 2024 - lots of vegan food

Image
This post will mostly be about the vegan food I ate on my last Vancouver trip. My main purpose of this trip was to visit older relatives but there was a secondary purpose of visiting my mom’s grave for the first time.  I left from Ottawa airport in the evening but I hadn’t eaten much that day. I usually don’t get food on planes but I was hungry and they had a vegan wrap. It was good. You can read about my flight experience here   Is AirCanada bulkhead seat worth an $80 Flights from Ottawa usually arrive in Vancouver in the evening. Before exiting the gates there is a cafe that has to live for treats. Rebel cookies were on sale at the store. There is very little vegan food around my hotel so I stocked up for the week. After getting luggage there is a 7-11 in the airport to get some essentials for the trip. I always look to see if they have the vegan breakfast sandwich I had it one time but haven’t seen it again.  It has been two years since my mom passed away and I had nev...

April 21, 2018 Tsawwassen Mills shopping trip

Foodiebuddy and I arranged to go to Tsawwassen Mills as a pre-birthday celebration. Tsawwassen Mills is a newer mega mall with outlets near the ferry terminal. The mall is built on first nations land as it is about a 40 minute drive from Vancouver. Prior to the mall existing I very rarely visited Tsawwassen I believe the last time was over ten years ago when a family member lived there. Fortunately Tsawwassen Mills is operating a free shuttle from downtown Vancouver and Richmond which makes getting there convenient. I live in Coquitlam and Foodie Buddy lives in Richmond so we both took skytrains from our homes and met in downtown Vancouver. We didn't plan this but we ended up picking a gorgeous weather day much appreciated after the weather we have had recently. downtown Vancouver April 21, 2018 We knew the bus left at 12:30 but we weren't sure where the stop was. We decided it was likely where the other buses leave from at Canada Place. We saw the bus when walking ...

April 17, 2018 Vegan Nachos and Cheese Sauce

I saw this amazing Vegan Hollandaise recipe from  www.hookedonplants.ca  I had to get cashews to actually try it. I made a few changes using the ingredients I had. The result is so good it inspired me to write a blog post. The recipe calls to soak cashews overnight I soaked them for 10 minutes. I also replaced the lemon juice with pressured cooked ginger lemon my friend made for me. I used curry spice, herbamare sea salt, and pepper for seasoning. I put all the following ingredients in the magic bullet  half a cup of cashews 1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast seasoning After blending it was too runny so I added another 10 cashews and a tablespoon of nutritional yeast The texture is great except I should have soaked the additional cashews To make tortilla chips heat a tablespoon of olive or coconut oil in a pan (I used olive this time coconut in the past) fold corn tortilla (365 by whole foods is my preferred tortilla) into trian...
