I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa

Image
I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa. I probably missed a few but I did try a lot of them. I have lived in Ottawa for two years and I was still transitioning from vegetarian to vegan when I moved here. I don’t remember having a lot of soft serve in Vancouver when I did eat dairy. I only remember having it at McDonald’s and buffets. I didn’t even know vegan soft serve was a thing until I moved to Ottawa. I tried six places The Merry Dairy, Oddburger, Little Jo Berry’s, Chocolate Favouris, IKEA, PastelXCoco, and 2 bonuses dole whip from Cinnaholic and the plant based dilly bar from Dairy Queen. I also went to Mavericks but they have been having supply issues and the soft serve is currently not vegan. Let me know if I missed any and maybe I’ll update the post in the future.  The Merry Dairy was the first vegan soft serve I had in Ottawa. I remember thinking I had to wait in line to get into the store only to learn soft serve was at the truck with no line. I was super excited that I

How did I make money getting free stuff

Starbucks had a promotion earlier in the week if you bought a drink they would give you a free drink coupon for the weekend. That was the only thing that is technically buy 1 get one free in this haul everything else was free. I told my mom I was going to get my free drink before going to her house so she gave me a shopping list.  There is a save on foods right next to Starbucks and my purse was full of free coupons. I have been getting a ton of tips on how to get coupons and cash back from Canadian deal finders on Instagram. Even the cashier commented that those were some good coupons. Save on foods is very easy with coupons great place to redeem all the free coupons and I had a great cashier. Save on points are also great in the past I have used them for free flights to Vegas.   The almond milk coupon came from samplesource. Samplesource sends out boxes with free samples and coupons a couple times a year. They are very hard to get because you have to sign up the day they are releas

Vegan Grilled Cheese and Dill Pickle Soup

Image
I have a lot of pickles in my fridge and someone on Instagram had mentioned dill pickle soup. I thought it sounded interesting but I didn’t look up a recipe.  I was using things I had in my house as I  haven’t gone grocery shopping for awhile. I added vegan butter, half an onion, 1 potato, a few pickles, and lots of spices to the soup maker. I used curry powder, dried parsley, smoked paprika, mushroom seasoning, salt and pepper. I turned the soup maker on and went to do a workout. The soup maker is still my favourite gadget.  I am always amazed by how good things turn out in the soup maker. I will make this soup again but I will use more vegetables next time to get a creamier texture.  I found this really good applewood vegan cheddar block from the UK at Save-On-Foods on sale for $8.99. I thought it was expensive when I bought  but the block lasted a long time and it melts great the best melting vegan cheese I have tried so far. You can see the cheese here on my second Instagram accoun

I tried the KFC Canada Plant-Based Box Meal made with Lightlife

I haven't had KFC in years. In the past the KFC near me were joint with taco bell and the combination of the two greases was not a smell I enjoyed. Taco Bell or KFC by themselves are fine but I couldn’t handle the combo smell. Now fortunately for me one of the Taco Bell has closed and the KFC is still open. I saw the sign of plant-based options at KFC when walking by in the food court. I had to do some research to know if this was new because I hadn’t seen any advertising. I knew the beyond chick’n was being introduced in the US this week and wondered if that was in Canada as well. There are a few new plant based choices using Lightlife in Canada for limited time. I chose to get the Meal box which includes sandwich, popcorn chick’n, drink, fries the cost is $12.40 I added tomato and my total was $13.68 yes it’s an expensive tomato slice but the meal price is pretty good for what you get don’t get the tomato. I wanted to try the popcorn chick’n but if you just want a sandwich combo
