2024 Contest Wins

I enter and win a lot of contests but I always forget to track how much I win. This year I am going to have a blog post and keep updating it as I win.  Contest win #3 was a medium mixed produce box from OddbunchCanada. Until this contest i didn’t know much about OddbunchCanada . I can’t believe they are selling a produce box of this size and quality for only $32 plus $4 delivery. It is a lot more produce than I was expecting to get and it’s very good quality. Last week during a trip to Montreal I May have complained that I needed to eat some vegetables after all the croissants and sweets that problem is solved. I will likely order a small box $20 from OddbunchCanada in the future.  Total Value of Prizes so far March 2024 $131 Contest win #2 for 2024 was a Queen Cake from  Strawberry Blonde Bakery . A very yummy vegan cake. I packed some up to share with my friends. I’m not sure what this cake is valued at but cakes range from $44-100 on the website. I will go with a conservative $50.

I tried the KFC Canada Plant-Based Box Meal made with Lightlife

I haven't had KFC in years. In the past the KFC near me were joint with taco bell and the combination of the two greases was not a smell I enjoyed. Taco Bell or KFC by themselves are fine but I couldn’t handle the combo smell. Now fortunately for me one of the Taco Bell has closed and the KFC is still open.

I saw the sign of plant-based options at KFC when walking by in the food court. I had to do some research to know if this was new because I hadn’t seen any advertising. I knew the beyond chick’n was being introduced in the US this week and wondered if that was in Canada as well. There are a few new plant based choices using Lightlife in Canada for limited time. I chose to get the Meal box which includes sandwich, popcorn chick’n, drink, fries the cost is $12.40 I added tomato and my total was $13.68 yes it’s an expensive tomato slice but the meal price is pretty good for what you get don’t get the tomato. I wanted to try the popcorn chick’n but if you just want a sandwich combo you can get a coupon on kfc.ca for $6.99

In my research I discovered that the new plant based options use Lightlife in Canada. I also learned that the spicy mayo is now vegan but the reviews said it tasted bad so I didn't try it. There are a few other things on the menu that are plant based from the KFC website

I got my meal with the coleslaw which I thought was good. I wasn’t asked if I wanted sauces but I’m sure I could have got one if I asked but I had bbq sauce and vegan mayo at home.

I got this meal a few hours before I ate it and reheated everything in the airfryer. I had put the KFC paper bag inside a plastic bag and that inside a reusable cloth bag while I was walking home. I could smell the KFC smell all the way home.

I tried the popcorn chick’n by itself without any sauce. It’s very good didn’t need any sauce. I also tried it with BBQ sauce still good. It is not dry and seasoned well I would recommend trying them. I give them a 10/10.

Next I tried the sandwich I thought it was okay but the one from Pizza Pizza is much better. I like my mayo spread out not in clumps. The chick’n part was good but it was dry because it’s so thin. Yes I did reheat it in the airfryer but I did the same with the one from Pizza Pizza and that one was juicy. The expensive tomato slice did nothing for the sandwich. Overall it is too dry for my taste it’s okay I would give it a 6/10.

It is great that more fast food places are implementing plant based options and listening to feedback. I did see that KFC has heard the complaints first about the spicy mayo but being vegan and now that it is vegan not tasting right. I’m sure they will fix it.

I recommend you try the popcorn chick’n before it gets sold out they are very good.
