Started 2025 with a trip to Las Vegas

It’s now December 31, 2025 Im drinking tea in an ice cream shop in Ottawa realizing I never finished this post. I drafted this post earlier in the year but it’s all still relevant.  The  way the world has changed in the last few months I feel like I need to explain that I went to Las Vegas in early 2025 because I knew things were going to change after January 20. I didn’t know how. I was expecting more violence and less direct flights. I never expected that things would change so quickly in a few months. It is now the beginning of March and it’s hard to keep up. Anyways flights and tourism to US destinations are already significantly reduced from Canada. I finished this trip knowing it would be awhile before I visited the US again and it was a pretty perfect trip for my memories and I am glad I took it.  I have been to Las Vegas many times you can read about some of my previous trips on this blog. Starbucks Apple Crisp Iced Coffee

There was a time when I drank a Starbucks almost daily. Over the last few years I transitioned to making coffee at home more. The last few months I no longer have to drink coffee daily and only drink it once in awhile as a treat. Sometimes you need a fall drink on a hot summer day to make you feel good. 

I knew the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte would be released today August 24. When I was looking to see what variation of drinks are available this year I found they now have Apple Crisp flavoured drinks this year.  I did some research to find out if it is vegan as far as I can tell from the ingredients it is vegan. I also read some reviews that said it’s good for people who find pumpkin spice too sweet. I do find the pumpkin spice to sweet. 

The reviews also said the hot version is better than the iced. It’s a really hot day so I went with the iced I also substituted coconut milk. I was looking forward to a spicy apple flavoured drink. The first sip had a really nice apple flavour. There is some sauce on the bottom of the cup so I mixed it. That gave it a bitter flavour. I think the hot version would be better because the flavours would mix better. 

This drink was okay and mostly because all the flavours are there but every sip tastes different. I probably won’t order the iced version again but I will try the hot version in the future.

I won over $1300 worth of contest prizes in 2025

Last year I started keeping track of the prizes I won. You can read that post here  2024 Contest Prize Wins . It is a great post to have for memories so now I have a yearly post.  Updated January 1, 2026  I only had one more win since the last update it was a $10 scratch ticket from waypoint. I have won other smaller prizes like chocolate or drinks from waypoint that I usually giveaway. This is the first time I actually went to a waypoint to get my prize. It’s a gas station convenience store very small but cute. The ticket didn’t win anything. It’s now 2026 so this will be the last update for this post. November and December were really slow for prize wins for me. November makes sense because I took a break from entering but I’m not sure what happened in December. I entered a lot sometimes that’s just the luck but hopefully I will start the year with a few wins. I do have a few small prize wins that haven’t come yet. I made a vegan Dubai chocolate bar

I wanted to try a proper vegan version of the viral  Dubai chocolate. I have tried the one from Palm bites  and  it’s good but it’s a healthier version made from dark chocolate and the pistachio is the crunch. I have also tried the cookie from Naturally Vero since they had an option to get it with my meal prep delivery. They do make a chocolate bar  but they don’t deliver it. I like the cookie filling but find it was too heavy in the cookie. Juice Dudez also has the filling in a mango pudding which is excellent but they don’t do a vegan chocolate yet. I am hoping I will convince them or any other Ottawa vendor to make one some day. In the meantime I had to make one myself.  I have asked my vendor friends to make me one even sent them the recipes but no one has yet. I really wanted to try a proper unhealthy version just once.
