I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa

I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa. I probably missed a few but I did try a lot of them. I have lived in Ottawa for two years and I was still transitioning from vegetarian to vegan when I moved here. I don’t remember having a lot of soft serve in Vancouver when I did eat dairy. I only remember having it at McDonald’s and buffets. I didn’t even know vegan soft serve was a thing until I moved to Ottawa. I tried six places The Merry Dairy, Oddburger, Little Jo Berry’s, Chocolate Favouris, IKEA, PastelXCoco, and 2 bonuses dole whip from Cinnaholic and the plant based dilly bar from Dairy Queen. I also went to Mavericks but they have been having supply issues and the soft serve is currently not vegan. Let me know if I missed any and maybe I’ll update the post in the future.  The Merry Dairy was the first vegan soft serve I had in Ottawa. I remember thinking I had to wait in line to get into the store only to learn soft serve was at the truck with no line. I was super excited that I

Another week of meal kits from Vegano

My delivery usually comes at 10 am this time it came at 3pm so I was getting worried I wasn’t going to get the kit this week. I don’t buy groceries when I order meal kits because it’s enough food for me. I’m glad I got the kit.

This weeks menu items were limited because a new menu comes out next week. The meals I chose were not my favourite but I had a discount code and I love a deal.

The first meal I tried was a Moroccan eggplant tagine with couscous and a green pea and mint purĆ©e. The instructions said to cook the couscous for 5-6 minutes but I needed to cook mine for ten minutes. The tagine said to cook for ten minutes that might have been to long. The tagine had eggplant, onions, apricots, red peppers, chickpeas and a side of raisins. There was a lot of tomato paste flavour. The kit also came with some dried herbs to sprinkle on top. When I went to Morocco over 20 years ago every time I would ask for something vegetarian I either got a plate of prunes or an omelette. I expect that things have changed now. This dish did not compare to the food I remember in Morocco it is missing the spices. This tasted more like a curry my mom would make if she was trying to make something quick and easy. The dish was okay and easy to assemble but I wouldn’t order it again.

The next dish was Lazy Kung Pao Noodles. This is one of their most popular dishes. You can’t really go wrong with rice noodles, sauce, broccoli, spiced peanuts, and green onions. My green onions wilted because my delivery was so late I could only salvage a bit of them. I am a little odd I like frozen broccoli but I don’t like fresh. That’s the only thing I didn’t like about this but that is just my odd taste. The peanuts were really good I ate a lot of them as a snack. This was a good dish but it wasn’t as good as the udon noodles I had in the past. I might order this again.

The last dish was a roasted beet shawarma. I procrastinated on making this dish because I don’t like beets. I tried the hummus earlier in the week and my first bite was a whole clove of garlic I think they did not have a good enough blender. The rest of the hummus was okay. I only made a quarter of the beets because they gave way to much. I had to cook the beets for fifteen minutes. Then on a plate put the hummus. There was lettuce but I left it too long so couldn’t use it. Then on top of the beets garnish with the roasted chickpeas and pickled onions. It also came with pita bread. It was a good dish I shouldn’t have procrastinated for so long but I will be eating some more of this meal tomorrow.

This weeks meals were not my personal favourites but they were better than I was expecting. The meals I am getting for next week I am very excited about so expect another post soon.
