I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa

I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa. I probably missed a few but I did try a lot of them. I have lived in Ottawa for two years and I was still transitioning from vegetarian to vegan when I moved here. I don’t remember having a lot of soft serve in Vancouver when I did eat dairy. I only remember having it at McDonald’s and buffets. I didn’t even know vegan soft serve was a thing until I moved to Ottawa. I tried six places The Merry Dairy, Oddburger, Little Jo Berry’s, Chocolate Favouris, IKEA, PastelXCoco, and 2 bonuses dole whip from Cinnaholic and the plant based dilly bar from Dairy Queen. I also went to Mavericks but they have been having supply issues and the soft serve is currently not vegan. Let me know if I missed any and maybe I’ll update the post in the future.  The Merry Dairy was the first vegan soft serve I had in Ottawa. I remember thinking I had to wait in line to get into the store only to learn soft serve was at the truck with no line. I was super excited that I

Beyond Meat Nuggets at A&W Canada

I remember a couple years ago when I tried the vegan nuggets at A&W Canada. They were good but I preferred the beyond burger. I thought they would be around for awhile but then they were gone. I never had a chance to try the KFC vegan popcorn chick’n before they were gone. I went to A&W the first day the Beyond Meat nuggets came out all the advertising advises they are only here for a limited time. I wanted to ensure I tried them before they get sold out. I have seen reviews of people that like them but some of their posts are sponsored. None of my posts are sponsored just my real opinion.

I have been vegetarian for over 30 years I don’t remember liking chicken nuggets when I ate meat. I do like the Gardein brand vegan strips but they aren’t sold at fast food restaurants. I still prefer a vegan burger over nuggets any day.

The nuggets come in a 4 piece kids size, 6 pieces, 10 pieces. I don’t remember the exact prices around $6 for both the kids and 6 piece and $9 for the 10 pieces. I got a 6 piece and asked for BBQ and Sweet and sour sauce they are the vegan sauces available.

The nuggets were freshly fried I had to wait a couple minutes. I didn’t check the bag for sauces  before I walked the 25 minutes home. I could smell the nuggets while walking home they smelled good. Usually when I go home I reheat fries in my air-fryer I was prepared to reheat the nuggets  but they were still hot.

I was disappointed when I checked the bag at home and there were no sauces and I didn’t have anything at home to compensate. At least they gave me three packs of ketchup. I tried one nugget plain it wasn’t that great to me. The inside was nice and moist but the breading was dry. Then I tried it with ketchup it was much better. I’m sure I would have been a lot better if I had the actual sauce with it.

I personally thought the Beyond meat chick’n nuggets were okay I’m glad I got to try them but I won’t go out of my way to buy them in the future. If they make a burger with vegan mayo out of them then I would try that.

As always I’m also happy when the chain restaurants are successful launching a new vegan product. I am sure other restaurants will be serving these in the future and they will be very popular. I will be happily eating the beyond burger though

  1. How do they compare to the vegan nuggets A&W had the last time? Better or the same?
