2024 Contest Wins

Image
I enter and win a lot of contests but I always forget to track how much I win. This year I am going to have a blog post and keep updating it as I win.  Contest win #3 was a medium mixed produce box from OddbunchCanada. Until this contest i didn’t know much about OddbunchCanada . I can’t believe they are selling a produce box of this size and quality for only $32 plus $4 delivery. It is a lot more produce than I was expecting to get and it’s very good quality. Last week during a trip to Montreal I May have complained that I needed to eat some vegetables after all the croissants and sweets that problem is solved. I will likely order a small box $20 from OddbunchCanada in the future.  Total Value of Prizes so far March 2024 $131 Contest win #2 for 2024 was a Queen Cake from  Strawberry Blonde Bakery . A very yummy vegan cake. I packed some up to share with my friends. I’m not sure what this cake is valued at but cakes range from $44-100 on the website. I will go with a conservative $50.

Epic Vegan Foodie weekend in Ottawa Ontario Canada December 2023 featuring Le Cordon Bleu Plant Based Soiree and other great vegan businesses

December in Ottawa has so many vegan food events and this past weekend was really Epic. It is hard to get to everything during the weekend. The first event on Friday night was a plant based soirĆ©e at Le Cordon Blue Ottawa.  The first cohort of the plant based program was close to graduating. The next event was Little Jo Berry’s that just recently opened for indoor dining after being takeout only for the last few years. After that to the Christmas market and some takeout for later from HotPotatoCo. The final event of the weekend while was I writing this was Franberry baking last vegan brunch pop up for the year. It’s a week since I wrote this and it wasn’t the last event. There was another trip to the Christmas market and more food from HotPotatoCo. Now it’s over month and a whole new year since I started drafting this post. Ottawa keeps me busy.  When I saw that Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa was going to have this event I bought the tickets right away. I knew they would sell out quickly and I

I flew from Ottawa Ontario Canada to Toronto city airport on Porter Air for the first time

Image
I flew Ottawa to Toronto city airport on Porter in December. Last year I had the train booked to go to Toronto and a flight to come back. My train was right after the one that derailed and after rebooking and trains getting cancelled for three days I gave up on going. I had booked the cheapest flight to come back no refunds but I got one year credit for my flight. The credit was going to expire so I decided to book an evening flight so I could go after work. I had intended to use it earlier in the year but things didn’t work out. This was the first time flying on Porter. It is only a one hour flight and Ottawa airport is not busy. I got to the gate at 630 for a 7 flight. It was empty except for gate agents. I asked if they had boarded already they said yes. I thought I was the last one but other people came after. My carry on didn’t fit in the overhead bin they gave me a choice of putting it under the seat or taking it back to the front to go under the plane. There was no one beside me

Vegan weekend adventures in Ottawa fall 2023

Image
The fall season in Ottawa is a few weeks so you have to enjoy it. This summer was mostly rainy but it was heat wave weather at the end September straight to the colder windy days of October. If you are new to my blog I have lived most of my life in Vancouver and moved to Ottawa last year. I moved to Ottawa with my mom and last fall was dealing with her pancreatic cancer so I didn’t have time to enjoy Ottawa fall things. My mom passed away last October and this year I didn’t have many commitments which left me time to explore the Ottawa beauty and vegan food.  There really isn’t enough time to explore everything and work there is always something going on. I have also gone from not having much of a social life to having to vegan friends in the last couple of months. The beauty of Ottawa is it really is a big city small town at least in the vegan market community. Hotpotatoco one of the vendors at the market introduced me to one of my vegan friends that will be known as the other vegan g

I made Vegan Hackspod mung bean vegan egg recipe with Urad dal or Split black Mapte Beans

I love VeganHackspod’s Mung bean vegan egg recipe. Here is a previous blog comparing it to Justegg-vs-mung-bean-egg-using-vegan.html I wondered if  different lentil would work I didn’t cook lentils much myself before I was vegan but my mom always did. I only had Urad Dal or split black mapte beans a couple of times. My mom would save it for special occasions telling me it took longer to cook. I remember it being so creamy as a soup. It was only $3.99 for the bag about the same price as mung beans. Looking at the instructions they don’t take longer to cook and I looked up some recipes online they are used in pancakes.  I soaked them after four hours they are so fluffy and expanded so much. The washing was a little more work for these than the mung lentils because it’s hard to tell if it’s skin or dirt on them maybe that’s what my mom meant by longer cooking.  The next day I blended the lentils with some spices and plant milk. I used ripple milk and I used the magic bullet to blend so it
