A road trip Ottawa to Quebec City Day 1

Image
My friend visited from Vancouver at the same time a friend from Ottawa was going to Montreal to celebrate her birthday and foodie buddy was also going to be in Ottawa. I will call the first friend to arrive Van-friend she is Korean and really wanted to go to Quebec City because there is a Korean drama filmed at the fairmont there. I learned French in Trois-Rivières thirty years ago and I always said I would go back one day. This trip took a lot of planning but of course things never go as planned it was still a great trip just wished we had more time in each city. When we were looking to rent a car we were having trouble getting one and no trains were running to Quebec City on a Thursday. We decided to book a flight from Ottawa to Quebec City meet my friend in Montreal the next day stay the night and drive back to Ottawa in the afternoon.  Van friend flight came late on Wednesday night. I got her Korean food from Koreanmothermeals at Parkdale night market. She loved it. We stayed at t

Vegan weekend adventures in Ottawa fall 2023

The fall season in Ottawa is a few weeks so you have to enjoy it. This summer was mostly rainy but it was heat wave weather at the end September straight to the colder windy days of October. If you are new to my blog I have lived most of my life in Vancouver and moved to Ottawa last year. I moved to Ottawa with my mom and last fall was dealing with her pancreatic cancer so I didn’t have time to enjoy Ottawa fall things. My mom passed away last October and this year I didn’t have many commitments which left me time to explore the Ottawa beauty and vegan food.  There really isn’t enough time to explore everything and work there is always something going on. I have also gone from not having much of a social life to having to vegan friends in the last couple of months. The beauty of Ottawa is it really is a big city small town at least in the vegan market community. Hotpotatoco one of the vendors at the market introduced me to one of my vegan friends that will be known as the other vegan g

I made Vegan Hackspod mung bean vegan egg recipe with Urad dal or Split black Mapte Beans

I love VeganHackspod’s Mung bean vegan egg recipe. Here is a previous blog comparing it to Justegg-vs-mung-bean-egg-using-vegan.html I wondered if  different lentil would work I didn’t cook lentils much myself before I was vegan but my mom always did. I only had Urad Dal or split black mapte beans a couple of times. My mom would save it for special occasions telling me it took longer to cook. I remember it being so creamy as a soup. It was only $3.99 for the bag about the same price as mung beans. Looking at the instructions they don’t take longer to cook and I looked up some recipes online they are used in pancakes.  I soaked them after four hours they are so fluffy and expanded so much. The washing was a little more work for these than the mung lentils because it’s hard to tell if it’s skin or dirt on them maybe that’s what my mom meant by longer cooking.  The next day I blended the lentils with some spices and plant milk. I used ripple milk and I used the magic bullet to blend so it

I flew Canada’s worst airline and had a great experience

Image
Flair started direct flights to Vegas from Ottawa. I have heard so many bad things about the airline but my first experience was fantastic.   I would usually take checked luggage but I was worried that luggage would get lost. I have a Solgaard check in suitcase and couldn’t imagine traveling with anything else anymore so I splurged on a carry on closet. I hope to do a lot more traveling in the future and now I have luggage for it. Flair does charge for carry on but the flights are still much cheaper than other airlines. My interest is in the direct flight but I have no issues paying for some extras. I buy seat selection because I want a window seat to take videos. I have short legs so leg room is not an issue for me. There was a lot of room under the seat for bags and feet. I saw complaints about not having reclining seats but I never recline my seat and I don’t like it when the person in front of me reclines. Even with extras my round trip flight was $300 and the majority of the price

My best friend from Vancouver came to visit and I had an Ottawa staycation

My best friend came to visit from Vancouver which gave me an excuse to be a tourist in this city. I moved from Vancouver to Ottawa last year and I had only visited when my niece and nephew were born prior to moving here. There are many tourist type things I have wanted to do here but I haven’t had the chance to.  My friend arrived on Wednesday evening I had a busy couple days at work so her timing was perfect for me to finish work and then enjoy the next couple of days with her in vacation mode. She came to my place we toured Uppliva spa for awhile then we went to Parkdale night market. My friend is Jamaican and not vegan she was looking forward to having Jamaican food here. She tried a few things and didn’t like them but she did feel like Ottawa in summer is a lot like Jamaica and I agree. We decided to order some delivery for her and the usual vegan vendors were not at Parkdale night market that week so I went to Banhmiyes and got a vegan chick’n dish.  Ott.eats  on Instagram had giv
