I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa

I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa. I probably missed a few but I did try a lot of them. I have lived in Ottawa for two years and I was still transitioning from vegetarian to vegan when I moved here. I don’t remember having a lot of soft serve in Vancouver when I did eat dairy. I only remember having it at McDonald’s and buffets. I didn’t even know vegan soft serve was a thing until I moved to Ottawa. I tried six places The Merry Dairy, Oddburger, Little Jo Berry’s, Chocolate Favouris, IKEA, PastelXCoco, and 2 bonuses dole whip from Cinnaholic and the plant based dilly bar from Dairy Queen. I also went to Mavericks but they have been having supply issues and the soft serve is currently not vegan. Let me know if I missed any and maybe I’ll update the post in the future.  The Merry Dairy was the first vegan soft serve I had in Ottawa. I remember thinking I had to wait in line to get into the store only to learn soft serve was at the truck with no line. I was super excited that I

Mung Bean ‘Eggs’ or Vegan Cheese Sauce

This is part 2 of the previous blog post you can see here  JustEgg-vs-mung-bean-egg-using-vegan.html When I wrote the last  post I didn’t have black salt. I received my order from Amazon a few days ago. Black salt makes things taste like eggs and it also great for bloating, and I personally like the taste.  This time I put the soaked mung beans, seasonings a little oil and some water in the magic bullet. I think I put too much water. Last time I whipped the mixture with a fork before cooking it in the pan. This time I poured from the blender into the pan.  While it was cooking I thought this method would make a good vegan cheeze sauce. Just change the seasonings and thin it out with plant milk add vegan cheese. I only had baby bell cheese and coconut almond milk which wasn’t the best for a cheese sauce so i didn’t add much just enough to see if it would work. I will likely try to make a mung bean cheeze sauce in the future.  I had already added seasoning to make the mixture taste like

JustEgg vs Mung bean Scramble using Vegan Hacks Pod recipe

Just Egg is a great vegan egg substitute but it is getting very expensive and it is also a plastic bottle with ingredients that I am not familiar with. This little bottle was on sale for $7 at the grocery store.  I have seen a few different recipes of recreations of Just Egg using mung beans but they all had ingredients i didn’t want to buy. Veganhackspod had a very simple recipe on his Instagram essentially just mung beans and black salt. I had a hard time sourcing these two ingredients in my area mung beans are usually easily accessible but they have been sold out at all the stores. After months of looking I finally found a bag at the grocery store for $3. This bag will last a long time.  I love black salt it is great for bloating and I personally like the taste. A lot of vegans will use it to make things taste like eggs. The only place I have been able to find it in my area is at whole foods but it is a giant bottle and I have very little space in my kitchen that size will go to was
