Started 2025 with a trip to Las Vegas

Image
It’s now December 31, 2025 Im drinking tea in an ice cream shop in Ottawa realizing I never finished this post. I drafted this post earlier in the year but it’s all still relevant.  The  way the world has changed in the last few months I feel like I need to explain that I went to Las Vegas in early 2025 because I knew things were going to change after January 20. I didn’t know how. I was expecting more violence and less direct flights. I never expected that things would change so quickly in a few months. It is now the beginning of March and it’s hard to keep up. Anyways flights and tourism to US destinations are already significantly reduced from Canada. I finished this trip knowing it would be awhile before I visited the US again and it was a pretty perfect trip for my memories and I am glad I took it.  I have been to Las Vegas many times you can read about some of my previous trips on this blog. I don’t think I have ever been in January. This time I was supposed to go w...

Neverland Vegan High Tea

Image
I won a gift card for Neverland Tea Salon and Foodie Buddy suggested we go there because they have vegan high tea. Regular price of the tea is $50 per person which for Vancouver is a reasonable price. We were a little late to arrive as we commuted by transit. The place was very crowded but we were seated and given the menu. The server explained that we could have as many teas as we wanted but you could only one at a time. I ordered an apple black tea for the first one they also have a variety of plant milk choices I requested almond milk.  I ordered the Vegan high tea and Foodiebuddy ordered the traditional. Our platter came with all the vegan items close to me and the other items on the other side. The server explained what everything was but I still had to look up the menu online.  I started by trying the scone. The vegan ‘cream’ tasted like the coconut whipping cream you get at the grocery store. We were only given one container of jam to share but foodie buddy let me...

I tried the new plant based jalapeƱo lime beyond burger at a&w

Image
I often go to a&w for a beyond burger combo. I always have coupons and my store even told me they accept expired coupons. The beyond burger combo is $7.99 with the coupon it includes a beyond burger, fries, and drink. The burger by itself is $7.75 so the coupon essentially gives free fries and drink.  I asked if the coupon was valid on the jalapeƱo lime beyond burger they tried but it was not. I am assuming because it is a limited flavour.  The question becomes is it worth paying a few dollars more for a different flavour of beyond burger.  Today it was okay because McDonald’s had free fries and I’m fine with drinking water. I bought the burger by itself. It was nice to not have to customize anything. I usually have to ask for no mayo, no cheese in my beyond burger but the staff at aw are so good it’s never an issue. I always go home and add vegan mayo and sometimes vegan cheese. This has not been an issue for the past few years as I’m always getting takeout and...

Beyond Meat Nuggets at A&W Canada

Image
I remember a couple years ago when I tried the vegan nuggets at A&W Canada. They were good but I preferred the beyond burger. I thought they would be around for awhile but then they were gone. I never had a chance to try the KFC vegan popcorn chick’n before they were gone. I went to A&W the first day the Beyond Meat nuggets came out all the advertising advises they are only here for a limited time. I wanted to ensure I tried them before they get sold out. I have seen reviews of people that like them but some of their posts are sponsored. None of my posts are sponsored just my real opinion.  I have been vegetarian for over 30 years I don’t remember liking chicken nuggets when I ate meat. I do like the Gardein brand vegan strips but they aren’t sold at fast food restaurants. I still prefer a vegan burger over nuggets any day.  The nuggets come in a 4 piece kids size, 6 pieces, 10 pieces. I don’t remember the exact prices around $6 for both the kids and 6 piece and $9 for ...
