I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa

Image
I tried all the vegan soft serve in Ottawa. I probably missed a few but I did try a lot of them. I have lived in Ottawa for two years and I was still transitioning from vegetarian to vegan when I moved here. I don’t remember having a lot of soft serve in Vancouver when I did eat dairy. I only remember having it at McDonald’s and buffets. I didn’t even know vegan soft serve was a thing until I moved to Ottawa. I tried six places The Merry Dairy, Oddburger, Little Jo Berry’s, Chocolate Favouris, IKEA, PastelXCoco, and 2 bonuses dole whip from Cinnaholic and the plant based dilly bar from Dairy Queen. I also went to Mavericks but they have been having supply issues and the soft serve is currently not vegan. Let me know if I missed any and maybe I’ll update the post in the future.  The Merry Dairy was the first vegan soft serve I had in Ottawa. I remember thinking I had to wait in line to get into the store only to learn soft serve was at the truck with no line. I was super excited that I

Neverland Vegan High Tea

I won a gift card for Neverland Tea Salon and Foodie Buddy suggested we go there because they have vegan high tea. Regular price of the tea is $50 per person which for Vancouver is a reasonable price.

We were a little late to arrive as we commuted by transit. The place was very crowded but we were seated and given the menu. The server explained that we could have as many teas as we wanted but you could only one at a time. I ordered an apple black tea for the first one they also have a variety of plant milk choices I requested almond milk.

I ordered the Vegan high tea and Foodiebuddy ordered the traditional. Our platter came with all the vegan items close to me and the other items on the other side. The server explained what everything was but I still had to look up the menu online.

I started by trying the scone. The vegan ‘cream’ tasted like the coconut whipping cream you get at the grocery store. We were only given one container of jam to share but foodie buddy let me have it. The scone was very good.

Next I tried the roasted sweet potato crostini. The toppings were good but the bread was just plain cold white bread. It would have been better warm or toasted.

Next I tried the cucumber sandwich. It was exactly as I would expect a cucumber sandwich to taste like. I was forgetting to take pictures at this point. I tried the asparagus and pesto sandwich next the filling was good but the bread was mediocre would have been much better warm.

The server came by to say we had the table for thirty more minutes and asked if we wanted more tea. I ordered the strawberry mojito it was herbal and very good.

I decided it was time to try some of the desserts. I tried the strawberry cake it was good similar to other vegan cakes I have tried.

The lemon raspberry cheesecake was very good.

Then I went back to the savoury items. I tried the tarragon tofu salad. It was good except for the bread was not needed.

After this our server had already come by to warn us how much time was left and I had paid the bill. I didn’t realize that we were expected to be finished exactly on time. I was rushed to finish the rest and didn’t have time for pictures. The chickpea salad was very spicy.

The remaining desserts were shoved into my mouth as the next party for our table had arrived. If you are going here make sure you are not late or it will be rushed. It seem like an hour and half  would be enough time but it went quickly.

I am glad I got to experience the vegan tea here. I probably will not return because when I have expensive high tea I want to feel relaxed not in a rushed very loud crowded place. They do offer takeout tea but still it is a expensive to have high tea at home.

The teas were good and they did offer to give me a takeout cup for the tea I didn’t finish. The food was decent a good variety of vegan savoury and sweet items.

Thank you foodie buddy for joining me and kits bia for the gift card.
