Starbucks hot apple crisp macchiato

Image
In a previous post I reviewed the iced apple crisp. Today is a strange weather day it’s sunny and raining at the same time. Cold from the wind and hot from the sun at the same time. It seemed to be a perfect day to try a fall drink released in summer.  I also had stars that were going to expire soon. I would normally order a tall since I was using the stars I got a grande. The only customization I did was request coconut milk. I know it’s not the best for this kind of drink it’s the one I like the most. Otherwise I wanted to try it the way it came.  Previously I had gone shopping with my mom and then decided to walk home. I had a heavy bag of flour to carry on the 1.5 km home. I was hoping that I could sit outside at Starbucks. All the outside tables were taken and inside was efficient with them having a person opening and closing the door and telling you to go pick up your mobile order if it’s there. I’m not comfortable sitting inside anyways but it was definitely an atmosphere of gra

Plant based cheese sticks

We have a grocery store here called No frills. The name describes it prices are good but the quality is also good. It is a nice grocery store.  Presidents choice is the brand that no frills and the other grocery stores in the same group of companies carry. They have a good line of vegan products.  The last few times I have visited No Frills I have looked at the plant based Mozzarella sticks. The box was almost $8 I was hoping they would go on sale. They didn’t so I finally decided to try them.  I cooked them in the air fryer and probably overcooked them so the cheese came out.  These were much better than I was expecting them to be. The cheese was like cream cheese. It would be great as a jalapeño popper.  I will definitely buy these again and now I think the box of 20 for less than $8 was a good price.

Another week of meal kits from Vegano

Image
My delivery usually comes at 10 am this time it came at 3pm so I was getting worried I wasn’t going to get the kit this week. I don’t buy groceries when I order meal kits because it’s enough food for me. I’m glad I got the kit.  This weeks menu items were limited because a new menu comes out next week. The meals I chose were not my favourite but I had a discount code and I love a deal.  The first meal I tried was a Moroccan eggplant tagine with couscous and a green pea and mint purée. The instructions said to cook the couscous for 5-6 minutes but I needed to cook mine for ten minutes. The tagine said to cook for ten minutes that might have been to long. The tagine had eggplant, onions, apricots, red peppers, chickpeas and a side of raisins. There was a lot of tomato paste flavour. The kit also came with some dried herbs to sprinkle on top. When I went to Morocco over 20 years ago every time I would ask for something vegetarian I either got a plate of prunes or an omelette. I expect tha

The taste of vegan mini donuts without the effort of making donuts

Image
I recently found out that most pancake mixes are vegan. The one I found with the best ingredients is a whole wheat mix.  To the pancake mix I added some water, almond milk, and oil. I didn’t measure just mixed ingredients until the consistency looked good.  Since I have no patience I didn’t let the mix rest and attempted to make one pan size pancake. I spread the pancake too thin and it got stuck to the pan so I scrambled it. Then I added vegan butter to the pan. You could add sugar but I added maple syrup.  The result was delicious. They definitely tasted like donuts or mini churros. If you don’t mind your pancake not being pretty give this a try.

My first time ordering a pizza without cheese

Image
I have been a vegetarian for over thirty years. Over the last year I have been transitioning to a vegan diet.  I used to think there is no way I could give up dairy but with all the vegan products on the market now it’s been easy. If I do eat dairy I can feel the effects on my body. My stomach bloats, my face breakouts, and I get tired.  There are many pizza places in my area that have vegan pizza’s with vegan cheese which I have had. I haven’t had anything amazing that I crave. I find that you often have to buy a large pizza to get the vegan option so I prefer to only get pizza from a restaurant when I am really craving it. I have satisfied my cravings with homemade pizza, vegan frozen pizza, and vegan pizza from cobbs bakery. When I was vegetarian hearthstone pizza was a favourite place. It’s one price for whatever toppings you want. I haven’t been there since changing to a vegan diet because I wasn’t sure about ordering pizza with no cheese. I ordered tomato sauce and all the vegeta

Starbucks Apple Crisp Iced Coffee

Image
There was a time when I drank a Starbucks almost daily. Over the last few years I transitioned to making coffee at home more. The last few months I no longer have to drink coffee daily and only drink it once in awhile as a treat. Sometimes you need a fall drink on a hot summer day to make you feel good.  I knew the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte would be released today August 24. When I was looking to see what variation of drinks are available this year I found they now have Apple Crisp flavoured drinks this year.  I did some research to find out if it is vegan as far as I can tell from the ingredients it is vegan. I also read some reviews that said it’s good for people who find pumpkin spice too sweet. I do find the pumpkin spice to sweet.  The reviews also said the hot version is better than the iced. It’s a really hot day so I went with the iced I also substituted coconut milk. I was looking forward to a spicy apple flavoured drink. The first sip had a really nice apple flavour. Th

I tried more meal kits from Vegano

Image
Vegano is the first company I have ordered a second meal kit from. I even have credits with other companies but I can’t find anything I like. It’s amazing I found a vegan company I like. The meal kit is $70 including delivery for 3 meals for two people. The price is good for what you get I usually get three or four big portions out of each kit even though they are meant to be two portions.  The first meal I made this week is grilled zucchini spaghetti it came with big pieces of grilled zucchini that the instructions say to put in the oven for 15 minutes. I cut the zucchini into pieces. The spaghetti was brown rice and the kit had cashew spinach dip, arugula, and a lemon vinaigrette. This one is easy to put together. It’s delicious I would order it again.  The second meal was an Indian butter cauliflower. This is meant to be a vegan version of butter chicken. It came with garlic naan and rice. I had leftover khichari which is rice and lentils. I didn’t cook the rice in the kit I will us

A walk in Port Moody British Columbia Canada

Image
Today I went for a walk in Port Moody British Columbia Canada. This week the weather has been cool after a long heat wave it felt really nice.  There were many people having birthday parties and picnics in the park but not a lot walking along the water. I enjoyed watching people get their boats into the water.  It was a good day to walk there. I made an Instagram Reel of the videos I took you can see if you click the link.  Instagram Reel of walk in Port Moody Unfortunately I am having trouble inserting video into this post but you can see everything if you click on the link above.

Beyond Meat Nuggets at A&W Canada

Image
I remember a couple years ago when I tried the vegan nuggets at A&W Canada. They were good but I preferred the beyond burger. I thought they would be around for awhile but then they were gone. I never had a chance to try the KFC vegan popcorn chick’n before they were gone. I went to A&W the first day the Beyond Meat nuggets came out all the advertising advises they are only here for a limited time. I wanted to ensure I tried them before they get sold out. I have seen reviews of people that like them but some of their posts are sponsored. None of my posts are sponsored just my real opinion.  I have been vegetarian for over 30 years I don’t remember liking chicken nuggets when I ate meat. I do like the Gardein brand vegan strips but they aren’t sold at fast food restaurants. I still prefer a vegan burger over nuggets any day.  The nuggets come in a 4 piece kids size, 6 pieces, 10 pieces. I don’t remember the exact prices around $6 for both the kids and 6 piece and $9 for the 10 pi

I made meals from vegano meal kit

Image
The first meal I made was vegan braised cabbage udon noodles. The QR code for recipe instructions did not work but I was able to get instructions from the website. I never follow recipes exactly. I found the vegetable prep to be too much work. I would have rather has the vegetables chopped for me. They gave a quarter of a daikon said use a peeler to make ribbons that was to difficult for me I just chopped it. Some of the instructions were not clear so I made some mistakes. It turned out amazing though. It is definitely not something I would make myself and would be hard to find vegan in a restaurant. I got 3 portions from it so portions are big. I give this meal an 9/10.  Vegan Udon on Instagram The second meal I made was the vegan French onion Mac and cheese. I don’t use an oven and so I just made it in a pan. This was easy to prepare. I found it lacking taste even though I added more spices. When I reheated in the airfryer it tasted much better so it could be that I didn’t follow the

My experience with meal kits

Image
Meal kits are when you are sent a bag of ingredients and you cook your meal. My attitude has always been I like going to the grocery store and cooking everything myself or get a fully cooked meal from a restaurant. To me meal kits seemed to be an in between that isn’t for someone like me.  I like free things though so awhile ago I was given a free meal kit from a different company Good Food. It was okay I don’t follow recipes I didn’t use all the ingredients and the food was just okay. I did like that it is convenient if going on vacation or sick and can’t get to the grocery store so I kept the account its easy to keep the account and not buy anything.  When I was recovering from surgery I couldn’t get to the grocery store so I thought it would be perfect to try another company. This time I tried Hello Fresh. The food was extremely tasty but there were so many steps and so many dishes needed to make anything. I have changed to a vegan diet and they only offer the option of getting vege

Vegan macaroni and cheese

Image
I was expecting to have a meal kit delivery from vegano foods but there was a delivery problem. This leaves me with no groceries or meal plan for the week. I decided it is time to use some of the ingredients I have in my apartment.  I had a box of daiya alfredo I used the sauce a long time ago and never used the brown rice pasta. I have a few types of vegan cheese so perfect to try vegan Mac and cheese.  This is the first time I have tried Sproud plant milk it’s pea based and thick so I thought it would be good for the sauce. Step one was adding melt vegan butter to the pan. Then around one cup of milk. Then spices I used curry powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper. I added a tablespoon of vegan sour cream to help thicken the sauce. After incorporating added half a cup each of vegan Parmesan, vegan cheddar, vegan mozzarella.  It melted well but it was salty. I added more milk, spices, and some water to fix the taste.  I had coated some of the pasta in olive oil, curry powder, nutritio

Airfryer Pasta chips TikTok trend

Image
I have been seeing the pasta chip trend all over Instagram. You cook the pasta normally then season and airfry it for ten minutes and you end up with crunchy chips. I have wanted to try but it as been too hot to cook anything until today.  This morning before I went out I boiled the pasta. I had bought these bigger shell pasta awhile ago to make a stuffed shell recipe. It was cheaper to buy 2 bags I didn’t know what I was going to do with the extra pasta until now.  I cut the pasta into thirds and decided to add most of the spices I have. Bagel seasoning, curry powder, nutritional yeast, cayenne, salt and pepper. I didn’t look up the recipe and also added some olive oil. The seasoning was good I ate some of the pasta from that plate.  I set the air fryer to 360 for ten minutes. When I checked on it half way I thought I probably should have looked up the recipe but after ten minutes they look great.    When I first tried them they were dry but I know everyone has been eating them with a

Vegetable Soup or Vegan Cheese Sauce?

Image
I find it amazing that I can throw some vegetables in the soup maker press a button and after 25 minutes it transforms into something super delicious.  This morning I defrosted some pizza sauce and then did not feel like making pizza. I thought I would try a vegan pizza soup.  I had a giant sweet potato so I cut some into fry shapes and added the not good looking pieces into the soup maker. Then I added some vegan better than bullion chicken flavour. Half an onion, water, cashews, nutritional yeast, pizza sauce, curry powder, Mexican seasoning and water. I usually add some fat to the soup maker I forgot this time it turned out great.  While the Soup maker was working I tossed the fries in cornstarch and sprayed with avocado oil. Then air fried them for 12 minutes. Adding a little oil part way through cooking.  The soup tastes amazing and was a perfect dip for my fries.

My experience having a Uterine Fibroid Embolization

It has been a month since I had Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). Today is the first day since I have been able to walk to the mall. Prior to the procedure this was a normal everyday walk for me it takes around 20 minutes. I’m currently sitting outside the mall drinking Starbucks preparing for the walk home. It also started pouring rain I’m also hoping it stops by the time I’m finished writing this.  If you have not read my previous post it is here it explains the procedure. This post will mostly be about the day of the procedure and I will write another post about recovery. For context a month ago when I had the procedure our hospitals were still overwhelmed and tomorrow my area will be entering phase 2 of opening.  I have never had a procedure done at a hospital before. With Covid restrictions and many surgeries postponed I was not expecting it to be busy. I was wrong there were lots of people.  I first had to go into a room and sign all the consent forms. After that I went to a wa

Fibroids, Ultrasound, MRI and UFE during a pandemic

This has been a two year journey so far I am not sure why I have been procrastinating on writing this. I think it’s very important to that woman talk about their experiences. I did not know what fibroids were until I was diagnosed with them.   I went to my doctor one day because it had been a few months since I had a period. Previous to that I was getting them every 2-4 weeks. There was no chance that I was pregnant and I had started a job where I was the only female in the office. In the past my cycle was influenced by other woman. I was not around any so I originally thought it was normal then I wondered if I was going into early menopause. I was in my forties and started my period when I was 10.  My doctor assured me that because I have hypothyroidism and low iron irregular cycles are normal. I have a good doctor so she decided to take a look at my pelvis she noticed it was swollen. Then she told me to go get an ultrasound. It is easy to get an ultrasound appointment here. I have ne

2020 review and goals for 2021

Image
It is already February 2021 and I have not written a yearly post or made any goals for 2021. Maybe you are reading this in the future it has almost been a year the world has been in a pandemic.  In my area most businesses that serve food or retail and schools are open. Other things like religious services, group events, and movie theaters are closed. We should only socialize with our household or if we live alone one or two other people. Other places have more severe lock downs.  My personal situation is my mom and I only socialize indoors with each other. On occasion I will meet a coworker for an outdoor walk and a takeout coffee. We are allowed to eat inside restaurants but I don't feel comfortable. I do pick up take out or visit a coffee shop and get a coffee to go. I am also still working from home but most of my office is back in the office with safety plans in place.  It has almost been a year since I have been inside the office. I think it will be a few more mont
