Started 2025 with a trip to Las Vegas

Image
It’s now December 31, 2025 Im drinking tea in an ice cream shop in Ottawa realizing I never finished this post. I drafted this post earlier in the year but it’s all still relevant.  The  way the world has changed in the last few months I feel like I need to explain that I went to Las Vegas in early 2025 because I knew things were going to change after January 20. I didn’t know how. I was expecting more violence and less direct flights. I never expected that things would change so quickly in a few months. It is now the beginning of March and it’s hard to keep up. Anyways flights and tourism to US destinations are already significantly reduced from Canada. I finished this trip knowing it would be awhile before I visited the US again and it was a pretty perfect trip for my memories and I am glad I took it.  I have been to Las Vegas many times you can read about some of my previous trips on this blog. I don’t think I have ever been in January. This time I was supposed to go w...

May 27, 2018 Wild Whale Watching Tour Granville Island

Image
My brother booked the tour as a present for his girlfriend and invited me along as they will be moving out of Vancouver soon. We met up at Granville Island and headed to the office where they informed us that we will have to sign waiver forms and we will be wearing the full body suit life jackets. I wasn't expecting that it was a super hot day. The tour leader was knowledgable and knew what size suit to give us. There was around 30 people on the tour on a new boat. Another thing I wasn't expecting was that it was going to be an open boat on our walk to the boat the tour leader gave us a talk about where to sit in the boat there was disadvantages to every location. When we got on the boat we were at the back and didn't end up having a choice of where to sit so ended up in the back. The seats were in threes so two of all the rows were taken. The seats were like beach chairs comfy to sleep in hard to get up out of. The boat also went really fast we could get up and walk aro...

April 21, 2018 Tsawwassen Mills shopping trip

Image
Foodiebuddy and I arranged to go to Tsawwassen Mills as a pre-birthday celebration. Tsawwassen Mills is a newer mega mall with outlets near the ferry terminal. The mall is built on first nations land as it is about a 40 minute drive from Vancouver. Prior to the mall existing I very rarely visited Tsawwassen I believe the last time was over ten years ago when a family member lived there. Fortunately Tsawwassen Mills is operating a free shuttle from downtown Vancouver and Richmond which makes getting there convenient. I live in Coquitlam and Foodie Buddy lives in Richmond so we both took skytrains from our homes and met in downtown Vancouver. We didn't plan this but we ended up picking a gorgeous weather day much appreciated after the weather we have had recently. downtown Vancouver April 21, 2018 We knew the bus left at 12:30 but we weren't sure where the stop was. We decided it was likely where the other buses leave from at Canada Place. We saw the bus when walking ...

April 17, 2018 Vegan Nachos and Cheese Sauce

Image
I saw this amazing Vegan Hollandaise recipe from  www.hookedonplants.ca  I had to get cashews to actually try it. I made a few changes using the ingredients I had. The result is so good it inspired me to write a blog post. The recipe calls to soak cashews overnight I soaked them for 10 minutes. I also replaced the lemon juice with pressured cooked ginger lemon my friend made for me. I used curry spice, herbamare sea salt, and pepper for seasoning. I put all the following ingredients in the magic bullet  half a cup of cashews 1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast seasoning After blending it was too runny so I added another 10 cashews and a tablespoon of nutritional yeast The texture is great except I should have soaked the additional cashews To make tortilla chips heat a tablespoon of olive or coconut oil in a pan (I used olive this time coconut in the past) fold corn tortilla (365 by whole foods is my preferred tortilla) into trian...

2017 Year in Review and 2018 Goals

Image
2017 was a year of change for me but I feel like 2018 is going to have bigger changes. I joined Instagram @livingvancouverloca and post pictures like this I visited the United States a few times even though Donald Trump became president. I went to Tulalip and stayed in the beautiful resort   I took this plane and Visited Las Vegas a week after the mass shooting there. I only had a few small contest wins this year a Tim Hortons gift card, some Starbucks, tickets to the home show, and tickets to the Nestle Toll House cafe Vancouver Grand Opening. Total value of the wins less than $100 I got some great freebies to review  from social nature cashew nut ice cream, coffee, salt, chips, vegan pizza, vegan gluten free bread and more. Total value of freebies to review around $75. I bought and Instant Pot and learned I could make popcorn in it.   Goals 2017 In 2017 I quit my job with a company that I had a very long-...

There cannot be any commitment, I have to be able to do things whenever I feel like it, stop for long periods of time if I want, and cash back sites and contest winnings do not count. I have to have received the money either in the form of gift cards or PayPal. I have been trying for over two years and this is the first year I think I am going to be able to meet this goal. It is not a fast process but it can be done. I know it is possible to make a lot more but I still want this to be a fun hobby not a job...

November 8, 2017 using an Instapot for the first time vegetarian pasta

Image
I used to have a multicooker which I loved the problem is once the pot scratched on the inside I couldn't find a replacement pot. I always knew the Instapot would be better because of the stainless steel pot and the slow cooker function but it was always something I didn't need. I had a pressure cooker and the soup maker. When I saw the Instapot was going on sale at London drugs for $60 off I told my friend I would give her my electric pressure cooker. The pressure cooker was too big for the small meals I make and I wasn't using it. The instapot was sold out before I got it but my friend still got my pressure cooker and she is happily pressure cooking large batches of ginger tea. My microwave has also stopped working and I decided I don't need a new one. The only problem I have been having with no microwave is warming food I have to do in a frying pan and cooking pasta.  This makes more dishes than I want to wash. I figured the instapot will help me as I...
