Day 6 Jamaica Trip April 2024

We went for breakfast at 7:30 as we had booked a driver that was to pick us up at 8:00 am. There were plantains on the buffet this morning and they were good. We were going to Nine Mile which is Bob Marley’s house and some other sightseeing. We couldn’t arrange for the driver to pick up my friends aunt as she lives too far away. We will try and have her come to the resort tomorrow. It’s our last day and I really want to spend one day relaxing at the resort before we leave. Tomorrow is also 4/20 and all over Ocho Rios were signs for parties and discounts. I don’t want to get stuck on the traffic.  The road to Nine mile was so narrow and bumpy. I spent most of the time holding on while listening to my friend and the driver banter and flirt. It is pretty rare that someone can keep up with my friends feistiness so it was entertaining. There were some great views from the window but I couldn’t get any pictures the ride was too bumpy. The roads in Jamaica are very narrow so there is always h

Day 5 Jamaica Trip April 2024

Today my friends aunt was coming to pick us up at 10. I went for breakfast at 9:30. My friend was there earlier and she got some plantains today but they weren’t very ripe. Breakfast was the same as yesterday for me so I didn’t take any pictures. In the morning I did call for some bottles of water to my room but it was too early I learned I could get some at the buffet.

My friends aunt was delayed so had time to sit at the coffee shop. This was the view from the coffee area. We chatted with security and the taxi driver at the hotel for awhile before we left. We didn’t leave the hotel until 12.

My friends aunt got proper plantains we ate it in the car. Today we decided to go to Ocho Rios. I have never been there and it is not that far from where we are staying. We have a driver booked for tomorrow to take us around the area and Bob Marley house tour.

My friends aunt wanted Pizza Hut we stopped in a plaza that had KFC, Starbucks, and Pizza Hut. Last time I was in Jamaica I saw the plant based sandwich poster at KFC but I have been told it was probably old and as usual even if it’s on the menu they probably won’t have it. KFC’s here usually have forty minute waits. I went in to see if they had plant based items it was hard to see the menu but I don’t think they had it on the menu.

We went to Starbucks it was bigger than the North American ones most of the menu was the same with a few more items. There were no marked vegan food items. There was a sign up for key lime drinks they said they could make it with coconut milk but weren’t sure if the keylime syrup had dairy in it I decided it would be okay. They asked if I wanted whipped cream I said no but still had to stop the girl making the drink from putting it on. My friend and I both didn’t like the drink and we don’t usually have the same tastes.

I wanted to do some souvenir shopping but not at tourist places. Of course we went to a tourist place at Taj Mahal shopping center where you have to bargain for a decent price we spent a lot of time there. I didn’t know if I was going to get a chance to go anywhere else so I did buy a few things some coffee and clothes for my niece and nephew. I am sure even after my good bargaining I paid too much. I did get a nice free souvenir for spending too much money there.

They also had pure chocolate bars many flavours are vegan and I haven’t read the package yet but they said they are made by college students. I bargained the price from $25USD to $12 which is less than the hotel was selling it for.

I thought the white chocolate, banana, plantain, sweet potato was interesting. It was pure cocoa butter if I find them cheaper somewhere else I will try a dark chocolate flavour.

We went to a restaurant as my friend wanted more plantains. There was only one vegetarian dish on the menu and my friend tells me Bahmy and festival are vegan for sides.

The sauce for the vegetables was good they told me it was jerk sauce but it tasted like Indian curry. I am getting tired of vegetables, rice, and peas but at least there is an option.

I have never been to Ocho Rios before I asked if we could go to a beach to take a picture. It was after 4 and the beach closes at 4:30 so I was taken to this place where cruise ships go. There was some cool tree art not much else except for restaurants. I took a couple pictures and we left.

Next was the supermarket. My friends aunt gets things cheaper in the tourist areas than in the area she lives in. She doesn’t get to the tourist area much so she shopped like we would at Costco.

It was mostly international items and not that many vegan items. I found a few things that will be posted on my Vegancanadianfinds Instagram account. I will add a link after it’s posted. I did find vegan friendly dessert bars that I’m pretty sure I have had in Ottawa before but it will be nice to have something vegan for dessert.

There was no room in the car for all of us and all the groceries. Sonehow there was another driver there that all the security guards knew and he took my friend and I back to the hotel while aunty and uncle went home. There was a lot of traffic on the way back but the view was beautiful.

It was after 6:30 when we got back to the hotel. My friend went to her room and I decided if I went up I wasn’t coming back down. I went to the pier and there were lots of people at the seating areas. It seemed to be the time for everyone to catch up on computer work.

I walked around a little. Then decided to also find a place to work on this blogpost.

There was one chair at the Gazebo so I decided to sit there listen to the waves and watch the sunset. After that I went to buffet dinner on the way I looked at all the stars and the moon in the sky.

My friend met me at the buffet. Food was similar to yesterday they had tofu and garlic bread. The new dish was tomato rice.

Then to the coffee shop to continue working on this post. My friend went up to her room before me. I waited until the coffee station was closing for the night working on this post. I decided to head up to my room.

The cat decided this was the perfect time to go lay at  the foot of the stairs to my room. We played a little peek a boo while I took some video. I’m sure she was hunting. Then I went to my door and the gecko that likes to hang out at my door was there.

I have been in my room for awhile finishing this post. There is a design flaw in this room there is a lot of space behind the counter where the tea and coffee is for things to drop behind but not get out after. A few not important things already fell behind today the entire basket of tea and coffee fell behind. Yesterday was the first time I got bitten by bugs this trip and I have been itchy all day. Now it’s time to shower and tomorrow is going to be an early morning so this is the end of Day 5.
