Started 2025 with a trip to Las Vegas

It’s now December 31, 2025 Im drinking tea in an ice cream shop in Ottawa realizing I never finished this post. I drafted this post earlier in the year but it’s all still relevant.  The  way the world has changed in the last few months I feel like I need to explain that I went to Las Vegas in early 2025 because I knew things were going to change after January 20. I didn’t know how. I was expecting more violence and less direct flights. I never expected that things would change so quickly in a few months. It is now the beginning of March and it’s hard to keep up. Anyways flights and tourism to US destinations are already significantly reduced from Canada. I finished this trip knowing it would be awhile before I visited the US again and it was a pretty perfect trip for my memories and I am glad I took it.  I have been to Las Vegas many times you can read about some of my previous trips on this blog. What has been happening in my life part 1 2022

This is a catch-up series with what has been happening in my life post. It has been awhile since I have posted because things have been really busy. I have lots of exciting things I want to post about so hopefully I will be able to post more regularly in the future.

Vancouver 


Let’s go back about a year. My mom and I lived within walking distance of each other in Coquitlam which is in the Greater Vancouver area. We both thought we would never leave BC this had been our home for almost my whole life I never thought I would leave. This blog url even has Vancouver in it.

 It was still the middle of the pandemic. My brother had two small kids in Ottawa. My mom and I both met my nephew when he was two weeks old just before the pandemic. I visited Ottawa during the pandemic to meet my niece when she was 2 weeks old. My mom had never met her granddaughter as she was uncomfortable going on a holiday during the pandemic. My nephew was very confused on how I got out of the TV when I visited as we had only video chatted. My mom and I were talking one day and decided we should both move to Ottawa to be near the kids. This was a conceptual plan thinking it would be a year or two in the future.

We had already signed a contract with the Realtor. The house was going to go up for sale in April. A couple weeks before my mom thought she had food poisoning. She was sick for a bit but we still did things like going for walks she thought she was recovering but still feeling like after one has the flu. I had booked her a drive through appointment for her vaccine booster dose about a month earlier. She went to her pharmacist to pick up a prescription and asked if the pharmacist could do the booster dose instead. When she went to the pharmacist he told her she was jaundice and she needed to go to the hospital. She went to the hospital and they found she has pancreatic cancer.

My mom was scheduled for surgery within a couple weeks. The house was already to go on the market but what if she passed away the house would go into probate causing delays. The realtor was great finding us a lawyer to get me on title so I could finalize things.

My mom has surgery and the house went up for sale while she was recovering. Twelve years ago when I bought my apartment my mom made me buy a sofa bed. I complained for the last twelve years it had never been used. My mom stayed on that sofa bed during her recovery it was nice that it got used and it was so much easier to do showing while not living in a staged home. 

There is a lot more to my story so there will be a few more posts. I have forgotten a lot of what has happened as there has been a lot. We have had a lot of great people helping us and things right now are as good as they can be.

I knew I wasn't going to be allowed to get up for hours nor did I feel like it I didn't realize that I wouldn't be allowed to get up all night because of the urinary catheter. I won over $1300 worth of contest prizes in 2025

Last year I started keeping track of the prizes I won. You can read that post here  2024 Contest Prize Wins . It is a great post to have for memories so now I have a yearly post.  Updated January 1, 2026  I only had one more win since the last update it was a $10 scratch ticket from waypoint. I have won other smaller prizes like chocolate or drinks from waypoint that I usually giveaway. This is the first time I actually went to a waypoint to get my prize. It’s a gas station convenience store very small but cute. The ticket didn’t win anything. It’s now 2026 so this will be the last update for this post. November and December were really slow for prize wins for me. November makes sense because I took a break from entering but I’m not sure what happened in December. I entered a lot sometimes that’s just the luck but hopefully I will start the year with a few wins. I do have a few small prize wins that haven’t come yet. I made a vegan Dubai chocolate bar

I wanted to try a proper vegan version of the viral  Dubai chocolate. I have tried the one from Palm bites  and  it’s good but it’s a healthier version made from dark chocolate and the pistachio is the crunch. I have also tried the cookie from Naturally Vero since they had an option to get it with my meal prep delivery. They do make a chocolate bar  but they don’t deliver it. I like the cookie filling but find it was too heavy in the cookie. Juice Dudez also has the filling in a mango pudding which is excellent but they don’t do a vegan chocolate yet. I am hoping I will convince them or any other Ottawa vendor to make one some day. In the meantime I had to make one myself.  I have asked my vendor friends to make me one even sent them the recipes but no one has yet. I really wanted to try a proper unhealthy version just once.
