Started 2025 with a trip to Las Vegas

Image
It’s now December 31, 2025 Im drinking tea in an ice cream shop in Ottawa realizing I never finished this post. I drafted this post earlier in the year but it’s all still relevant.  The  way the world has changed in the last few months I feel like I need to explain that I went to Las Vegas in early 2025 because I knew things were going to change after January 20. I didn’t know how. I was expecting more violence and less direct flights. I never expected that things would change so quickly in a few months. It is now the beginning of March and it’s hard to keep up. Anyways flights and tourism to US destinations are already significantly reduced from Canada. I finished this trip knowing it would be awhile before I visited the US again and it was a pretty perfect trip for my memories and I am glad I took it.  I have been to Las Vegas many times you can read about some of my previous trips on this blog. I don’t think I have ever been in January. This time I was supposed to go w...

October 30 - chickpea flour pizza, shopping and workout incentive

Image
Happy Halloween I saw an article that avocado was the new pumpkin so I had to try On friday evening I wanted a pizza. I never order delivery and it was to late for me to go out. I also don't keep regular flour in my house. I knew I had sauce and cheese and chickpea flour. I usually make chickpea flour pancakes but I wondered if I could make a pizza crust out of it. It actually worked pretty well I cook pizza in a frying pan as I don't use my oven and I find that the pan makes it easy to cook the crust and melt the cheese.  chickpea flour I poured the flour in the bowl I added olive oil, salt, pepper, water wishing i had dried herbs I would have let the dough sit but it was after work on and i was hungry so I only let it sit while the pan was getting hot. I put some ghee in the pan and then tried to spread the dough out in the pan it was hot so I couldn't take a picture. It would have been bette if i had rolled the dough out before putting it in the...

October 23, 2016 Non-Contest Wins, Soup Maker Soup turns to pressure cooker pasta

Image
This week I spent a lot of time on work related items outside of work and not a lot of time on anything else. I did get my website livingvancouverloca.com up and running. I still haven't figured out how to move the blog to it though I did some things earlier today that will take some time to transfer files. Hopefully I will figure it out soon. I enter contests every once in a while but I haven't won anything for around 6 months. I do not put a lot of effort into entering contests so I do not expect to win a lot but I do have some luck and winning is more enjoyable than getting discounts. When I received an e-mail from Essie telling me I won something I got excited and filled in the form right away and told some people I won. I received an e-mail blast that wasn't even personal the next day saying oops you weren't really a winner. There was no mention of compensation other than being entered into the same draw that I would have been entered into if I really won th...

October 16 2016 - BC Storm, Small Business BC, and Squash

Image
squash from my brother's garden This was the week of the BC storm a series of 3 storms the last one to be the most significant. The last one wasn't as strong as expected and where I was there was not much of an effect. I was going to go across the border with my best friends family on Saturday. We cancelled on Friday after my friend got stuck in traffic for hours because of accidents. I was lucky and mostly did not notice anything different than normal as I started my day later. I did notice when I was in downtown Vancouver on Friday that it was much windier there than it was in my city of Coquitlam. Last week was small business week and Small Business BC offered a few of their normally paid seminars for free. I have taken a few courses in the past there and love what they offer. If you are a small business or thinking of starting one they have a large amount of resources available and many for free. On Monday I attended the how to start your consulting business semina...

October 8 2016 - haircuts at annex, a stop at l'occitane and tea at soirette

Image
Had a fun day catching up with a friend I haven't seen for awhile. We first met at annex to get our hair cut. This is my favorite salon as all the stylists know how to handle my naturally wavy hair and they give you a shoulder massage with your haircut. My hair always looks good when I leave and the price is very reasonable for the service they provide. They remembered cutting my friend's hair in July impressive. L'OCCITANE some of the l'occitane haul as some items already given to my friend We then went to l'occitane to pick up our free gifts I am a l'occitane vip and have a bit of a problem with buying to much when I go to the store. I only go there a few times a year and always when I qualify for something free because I always leave with over $100 in products. I had two coupons that they let me use separately. The first was the free gift with $10 off if you spend $35 or more so I bought shampoo and conditioner since I needed that anyways. The other...
