A vendor gave me the wrong item and I accidentally tasted beef after over thirty years

A vendor I know at the market gave me a beef item instead of vegan one and I took a bite before I realized. This was the first time I have had beef in over thirty years. I do try and support non vegan businesses that have vegan products because it helps more people access vegan items. Unfortunately there is always a risk of getting something that isn’t vegan by accident; although, I have never had this happen at a market before. Vegan food is popular in Ottawa some businesses have really shown an interest changing their menu after I have spoken with them just so that they can be more inclusive. These businesses may not be ready to go fully vegan but they take a lot of care to curate the vegan menus.  Other businesses come to vegan events and don’t really offer much vegan outside of the events. I asked a vendor at Vegans who snack if they offer any vegan items on their regular menu and they looked at me like I was crazy for asking such a question. This particular business is in the second category they are not very passionate about vegan although they do come to the vegan events. They know I am vegan and I won’t say which business this was because this post isn’t about the business. Ottawa is a small town big city everyone knows everyone here. The pictures in this post will just be random not relevant to the post. This post isn’t to complain about a business it is more of a review of what beef  tasted like and the aftermath of putting meat in my body after over thirty years.

The business did take the incident seriously and it was a genuine mistake by staff but also a lack of controls. I usually check what I am eating but this is the first time I have ever been given an incorrect item at a market. Whenever there is a new vendor at a market I go and ask them if they have vegan items. The reason I didn’t check what I was eating is I have never had an issue at markets and I have bought this product from this vendor a few times before with no issues. It is also getting very difficult to tell the difference between vegan and animal products just by looking at them sometimes I wish the vegan products didn’t look so much like the original so I can tell them apart. Whenever I get the food item from the vendor I eat it while walking around the market.

I took a bite while walking and didn’t immediately clue in that this wasn’t the vegan item I ordered. The texture of the beef was the same as beyond. The reason I realized pretty quickly it wasn’t vegan was because it was flavourless. I had to look at it to determine why there was no flavour. I really don’t understand why non vegans can’t give up the taste of meat it has no taste. This item is from a place that is known for flavour in their food. This is why my non vegan friends love coming to eat vegan food with meIt’s because it’s better. All my non vegan friends that have been to vegan restaurants with me say the same thing and the ones that aren’t willing to try are going to justify the taste.

I went to the vendor and confirmed that this item was meat and non vegan. The vendor knew this was an issue and tried to rectify it as best they could it was a genuine mistake but also could have been prevented with proper controls. Of course this ruined my night but I did go visit some of the other fully vegan businesses before going home. I know what happens when I accidentally eat dairy but no idea what was going to happen after eating meat. I’m a pretty calm person even in menopause I do attribute that to not eating meat and dairy. That night I took probiotics and some vitamin D to hopefully not have any stomach issues. I have been vegetarian for over thirty years, then went plant based a few years ago when dairy was affecting me, and vegan for three years once I learned about the dairy industry. I know how accidentally eating dairy affects me but really didn’t know what will happen with beef. I only ate a little before I realized but I thought it would be okay but I wasn’t sure. I truly believe when you eat meat you are getting the energy of an animal that has been murdered. Imagine the last energy of this animal being scared and in pain I believe that energy goes in your body when you eat it.  Cow dairy is the milk of a mother that has had the baby taken away from her for that milk. That is the energy that goes into the body, I find people are usually cranky for a few hours after they eat meat or dairy and calm if they eat vegan. I see this is with my non vegan friends if we go to a fully vegan place they love it they are happy. If we go to a place where they eat non vegan they get cranky and argumentative right after.

I thought I only ate a little it won’t be bad. I was so jittery had a hard time getting to bed but my stomach was okay at night. I thought things were going to be good and I could go to the office in the morning. I was wrong I had to work from home barely made it through my work day and had to take multiple naps. My reaction was like a flu. My body flushed that bad energy out. It was better the next day. Lesson learned never trust the places that are not fully vegan and check your food before eating it. In summary meat is flavourless and it’s not good for my body even in small amounts.
